Course Title:
City and Guilds 7303 Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector
Course/Programme Outline
This short course provides participants with an introduction to teaching in post-compulsory education. It is appropriate for those involved in the delivery of short recreational or training courses or those wanting to take the first steps towards gaining professional recognition.
C&G 7303 is a stepping stone award and replaces the C&G 7302 and micro-teaching element of the old Certificate in Further and Adult Education Teaching (7307 stage 1). The C&G 7303 is designed to contribute towards the knowledge and understanding for the Further Education National Training Organisation (FENTO) or the Employment National Training Organisation Occupational standards. (These occupational standards are also the framework that underpin the C&G 7303 award)
Whilst you are a student on the City and Guilds 7303 course you will have the support of trained staff and the other students who will be from a wide range of organisations and vocational areas.
Who can apply?
If you work, or want to work, as: Part time teachers/tutors/training officers in further and adult education, Teachers/Trainers/Tutors/Training Officers in the Lifelong Learning Sector and Adult/Community Education, Trainers of personnel in commerce, industry, public and voluntary sectors or HM Forces Technicians and Support Staff in Further and Adult Education
Entry requirements
To be qualified in the subject you intend to teach by virtue of holding a level 3 appropriate professional qualification. Have a good level of numeracy and literacy (at least to level 2)
Be able to interpret written tasks and write your answers in a legible, clear coherent form.
Content
To achieve the qualification, candidates must successfully complete both the theory and practice assignments covering all five Sections.
Section 1: Understand own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching Section 2: Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area
Section 3: Demonstrate session planning skills
Section 4: Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners
Section 5: Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping
Assessment
You will be required to organise your work in a systematic way and produce a programme folder containing all the required tasks. There is no teaching practice requirement for this course. Participants will undertake a peer group teaching activity as part of the assessment for the programme

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Title: Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector City and Guilds 7303
Costs £150 (inclusive of certification fees and tuition)
Many Learners do not pay tuition or examination fees
Free Tuition: The categories that are entitled to free tuition are:
Learners who are at least 16 and under 19 years of age on 31 August 2009.
Learners studying their first full Level 2 qualification. If you do not hold a full level 2 qualification (5 GCSE passes at grade C or above or NVQ Level 2 or equivalent), you can study to achieve your first full level 2 qualification for free.
Learners who are at least 19 and under 26 years of age on 31 August 2009 studying their first full Level 3 qualification. If you do not hold a full level 3 qualification (3 A Levels, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent), you can study to achieve your first full level 3 qualification for free.
Learners in receipt of income-based benefits, formerly known as means-tested benefits, that is:
a. Unemployed people in receipt of income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
b. Those in receipt of Council Tax Benefit
c. Those in receipt of Housing Benefit
d. Those in receipt of Income Support
e. Those in receipt of Working Tax Credit with a household income of less than £15,276
f. Those in receipt of Pension Credits (Guarantee Credit only)
Unemployed people in receipt of contribution based Jobseeker’s Allowance
Unwaged dependants of people in receipt of contribution based Jobseeker’s Allowance or means tested benefits
Offenders who are serving their sentence in the community
Those taking basic skills courses in literacy and / or numeracy (excluding English for speakers of other languages)
Asylum seekers in receipt of the equivalent of income-based benefit (assistance under the terms of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999) and their dependants
If you qualify for a concession please bring evidence of your benefits or tax credits with you to enrolment so that we can process your application quickly. Please note that incapacity benefit is not income related so it will not qualify you for a concession.
Please note that our centre reserves the right to charge an administration fee of £5.00 per course to Learners offered remission who fail to start the course or attend the class sessions.
In order to comply with the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 we regret we can no longer offer 25% reduction in fees to people achieving the age of 60 years. If this affects you, you are encouraged to find out if you could be eligible for Pension Credits (Guarantee Portion). If you are eligible to claim this Tax Credit, you will be entitled to free tuition on our qualification based courses. Any tuition fees you have paid on these courses could be refunded to you on production of your award notice. You can apply for Pension Credit by free phone by calling The Department for Work and Pensions on 0800 99 1234, text phone 0800 169 0133 (8.00am to 8.00pm Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 1.00pm Saturday).
Other Costs
Normally you will have to pay for course items such as stationery, books and equipment.
